Signature Drums is based in Amersfoort, the Netherlands. It is a small business where the owner talks to you, builds the shell and ships it himself. There is no third party involved, minimizing the risk of misunderstanding and maximizing full control over quality. It is only for convenience that the website uses the term 'we'.
Drum builders from all over the world know Koko by his contributions to DrumShed, an Internet forum designed to embrace drum builders. His 'Stave drum Without A Lathe' jig has made it possible for others to finally be able to build their own stave shell. (When you Google for 'stavedrum' you will be directed straight to the thread where the jig is described and discussed).
Since 2006, shells have been built and tested in the field by professional and amateur drummers, which led to positive comments and further improvements.
With all the experience gained, Koko was able to make a new version of the jig and improve building methods to a standard ready for business. With the new jigs he is able to produce shells even more precise in size, faster and more accurately. A stunning 1.4mm (<1/16inch) thick shell proved the jigs capabilities and showed Signature Drums is ready for music!
Recommendation:
Even among other drum builders, Koko is looked on with a certain amount of awe.
His invention of a jig that lathes wood without actually having a lathe is bordering on genius. Look at the number of views and comments about it on DrumShed and you'll start to get the picture. He has many fans and followers.
If you take a minute and view a few more threads on that site you'll notice that Koko always has something nice to say to everyone. This is a trait that is much appreciated in the often competitive world of music. And it's a trait that makes him a pleasure to do business with.
With all of this going for him, I don't think anyone will be surprised to see his drum company become a huge success.
